Deer Season

Well here it is November 3rd in downeast Maine. To some people this means nothing. To me this brings the second Saturday of rifle season. We are scheduled to have hurricane winds and hard rain this afternoon throughout the evening. Bad news for hunters, right? Well, not necessarily. What this means to me is that the deer should be moving big time this morning. Due to my wife’s surgery I am unable to get out there early morning due to having to get my son up and going in the early part of the a.m. Another strike against me your thinking, right? Not really. I will be meeting up with Mark about 9:30 and taking to the woods for a couple hours. Due to the incoming weather deer should be moving even at that time of morning. Of course, I’m a firm believer that the bucks move most between 10 and noon anyways. The other important factor(s) are: most people will be out of the woods by then. They will have called it a day and will be drinking coffee at the local store. If they have not called it a day, there is a good chance they will be walking through the woods after sitting for a couple hours this morning. So, with Mark and I posted and these factors coming into play, I believe we stand a good chance to fill a tag this morning.

I will certainly keep you posted and let you know how our November 3rd hunt went.

Welcome to Downeast Sportsman. We are in the foundational stages of starting up an outdoor club where outdoor enthusiasts can come and share stories, experiences, knowledge and outdoor adventures with others. We are based out of Hancock County, Maine. We will be focused on Hancock and Washington Counties but will offer an invite to anyone interested.

I hope that you will come on board with us and help us grow into a strong sportsman’s group. One that honors the great traditions the outdoors has to offer. A major focus of the group will be to pass on these great traditions to the youth of today. It is a well known fact that the average age of the outdoor enthusiasts continues to grow older each time you and I have a birthday. We need to offer up outdoor experiences that will catch our young people at an early age. If we do not, you can rest assured that tv and video games will.

Stay tuned for updated information on a regular basis. We will also have stories of members, pictures of outdoor adventures and information that is important to Downeast Sportsman, such as you and I.
